welcome

Whendi Cook is a teaching artist and adventurer committed to cultural change and social justice.

As an emancipatory action researcher, she co-creates empowering opportunities with young women as they explore diverse approaches to action learning as a critical intervention in education for liberation.  Both scholar and fieldworker, she focuses on continually improving praxis – integrating theory and practice in order to optimize the potential for growth.

As a singer-songwriter-musician, actor, dancer and visual artist/artisan, she believes the arts are powerful vehicles for developing consciousness and promoting peace.  She sees her life is her art, which manifests in the ways she interacts with people and animals, her intention use of language and story, and the simple choices she makes to be a good steward of the natural world.

Whendi is a tradition-bearer and innovator who is often called on to create sacred space, celebrate ritual, and honor life’s passages. She serves as a community-builder with youth, adults, families and intergenerational groups to create transformational experiences that are both meaningful and sustainable.

Whether rock climbing to a mountaintop experience or caving below the surface for sanctuary, paddling uncharted waters or trekking into the wilderness to find the unexpected, she tries always to maintain a spirit of adventure.  Finding magic in the mundane is her constant quest – sometimes challenging, always gratifying.
